Playa Chiquita, Costa Rica

Outdoor Shower, Airbnb

I got to spend my 28th birthday in the beautiful country of Costa Rica and boy was it something magical. Since my birthday is in October, I decided to visit the Caribbean side of the Country since weather is more sunny during that time of year in that area. I can’t wait to go back though and visit the Pacific side!

I spent about 5 days in total here so below is my itinerary of what I did.

How to get there:

We landed in San Jose in the early morning and rented a car because to get to the Caribbean side of the Island, you most definitely need one. It’s the only way as it takes about 4 hours and 32 minutes to get there. (Without traffic). The drive is gorgeous though as you go through Braulio Carrillo National Park. IF you have time, stop and take a look around. It’s a sight to be seen!

In San Jose, we visited a coffee plantation and did a tour. The Coffee plantation I visited was Doka Poas. You can book directly through this link. I HIGHLY suggest. It was such a cool experience. They took you through the process of how they grow their beans and then how they produce the coffee. There is a butterfly farm located in the back of the plantation that was such a great bonus. You also get access to the Botanical Garden, and at the end of the tour, they allow you to taste test what they produce.

After the tour we embarked on our journey to Playa Chiquita, Costa Rica.

Once there, we stayed at such a cute Airbnb located in the middle of the jungle, basically. I really enjoyed this experience as I have never been so close to nature before.

Food:

  • Pura Gula Restaurante - Great for dinner

  • Gypsea - Great for coffee and brunch

  • Bamboocha - Caribbean Fusion

  • Playa 506 - Great location for food on the beach :)

  • La Casita de Monli - Caribbean & French touch - Wonderful for seafood. Ask for the catch of the day.

  • Noa Beach Club - Luxury on the beach dinner. Great for birthday dinners and wanting to dress up/be fancy. Go during sunset! I ordered the sushi and it was delicious.

  • Tamara in Talamanca

Sightseeing/Activities:

  • Visit Parque Nacional Cahuita - Entrada Puerto Vargas - Such a cool experience where you can see monkeys swinging on the trees and crocodiles in the pond. Located right on the beach!

  • Visit the Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica - You get to learn about the sloths and how they were rescued and cared for. It was so fun being that close to them.

  • Book a chocolate tour at Caribeans Chocolate and Coffee. The plantation was stunning to walk through.

  • Lay out on the beaches of:

    • Playa Punta Uva

    • Playa Cocles

    • Playa Puerto Viejo

    • Playa Chiquita

    • La Feira Legendaria de Playa Chiquita

  • Go dancing at Bar Maritza
