Amalfi Coast, Italy

Le Sirenuse, Positano

I fell in the love the minute I drove down those windy roads and gazed out at the beautiful sea. I have so much advice to offer you I don't even know where to start.

How to get there:

The nearest airport is Naples. However, I flew into Rome & then took a train down to Naples & rented a car when I got there. It made life a little more easier and fun for me. I love trains.

So I rented a car and drove through Napoli. My grandpa’s family is from there so it was really special for me to see his roots. Then, we made our way to Sorrento where we rented an airbnb. Not going to lie, the roads were very winding and made me sick a few times so I recommend sitting in the front seat & not looking down if you get motion sickness like I do.

I'll break down in this post each place I went to and what you should do since it's a lot.

Naples:

Naples is a wonderful place but please keep in mind it can also be very dangerous to people who aren’t familiar with the area. Some advice I got when there was to avoid wearing fancy clothes/jewelry. Try to just blend in and keep to yourself. It’s not a terrible place to go so please don’t take that away from this post. I am just trying to ensure you to be more cautious and aware of your surroundings. Better safe than sorry.

Sightseeing/Activities:

  • Ovo Castle.

  • Royal Palace of Naples.

  • Mount Vesuvius

  • National Archaeological Museum

  • San Gennaro Catacombs

Sorrento:

  • Limoncello tour. Must do. This is what Amalfi Coast is known for. It’s a sweet liquor that is used as a dessert drink. This tour was held in 3 different locations. 1st location included olive oil tasting & a tour of the place where the lemons are grown and how the limoncello is made. The 2nd location included a tour of a small little farmhouse that made fresh Mozzarella cheese. You got the chance to see the cows, how the cheese is preserved, a tasting of the different cheeses, and an in depth lesson of the history of cheese & how different types are made. The 3rd location was a PIZZA MAKING CLASS. So fun. We got to knead dough and add our own fresh toppings. We had a lovely Italian pizza shop owner and his son teach us the ways and then afterwards, we all sat down and ate our lovely pizza with a nice glass of wine. You can book this tour here.

  • Shopping district. Such a fun place to walk around and shop. I really enjoyed the people and scenery.

Positano

Positano:

  • The beach. It's a very steep hike back up to your car when you go down to the beach but boy is it worth it. Rent a bed and hang by the bars on the beach walk. It's so gorgeous. Only thing I didn't like was how touristy it is. SO many people taking photos (guilty) and just being a tourist. I mean, I understand why but something to keep in mind.

  • Music on the rocks. It's such a fun dance club that's literally right on the rocks of the beach. When you enter, you're in an actual cave. So cool.

  • Shopping. Obviously. It can be expensive but treat yo self.

  • The seafood is so good. I loved eating the salmon and swordfish and shrimp. Yummy. I ate at Le Sirenuse for my friends Birthday and it was divine. The food is delicious and the view is incredible. Definitely an expensive venue but, worth it nonetheless.

  • Ristorante La Marinella. Another great seafood restaurant to go to. Beautiful views of the water and the services is great.

  • Fiordo di Furore. Not technically Positano. It’s a little more towards Ravello but we passed it along the way. It’s a quiet little beach under a bridge. You won’t notice it unless it’s your actual destination. Parking is tricky so be sure to spare time looking. You have to hike down the little hill side to get to it. Not too bad at all. Just wear sturdy shoes. At the bottom you’ll see everyone laid out and swimming. Keep in mind, there were TONS of jellyfish when I went so we couldn’t swim too much in the water :/ Be careful when going and pay attention to those little suckers ;)

Ravello:

  • This town is so gorgeous and unique. Eat at Hotel Giordano (not biased because it’s my last name, lol.) - the view is incredible outside. You see the gorgeous sea, mountains and little towns below. Breathtaking.

  • Villa Rufolo

  • Villa Cimbrone Gardens

  • Le Ville di Ravello

Procida

Procida:

Okay so I’ll start off by saying this island is not only so cute but was the main location in the film “The Talented Mr. Rippley”. (Great movie, right? Jude Law is just so gorgeous.) You get there by ferry and it’s about 45 min more or less. I left from Sorrento. Not bad. It’s incredibly small so I recommend it to be only a day trip. We went in the morning and just hung out on the boat and at the beach all day.

Things to do:

  • Beach it. There are a few beach spots you can go to. I went to 2 and I really enjoyed myself. Both a very different vibe. 1 was more family oriented and relaxing. The other was more hip and lively. There are 6 beaches you can choose from! They are listed here.

  • Get a boat. Seems to be the thing to do in the Coast, I know, but it’s really worth doing. The boat will take you around the island and give you a different view on everything. Ours cost about 40 euros.

  • Go to the beach clubs. They are so fun. Drink some alcohol, hit the sand, rent a bed & just chill. We hung out at Maresia Solarium Procida Island. It’s a public pool on the beach (rad, I know). There’s an open bar and lounge chairs. Definitely a good vibe during the summer time.
