Mykonos, Greece

I had the lucky opportunity to visit Mykonos, Greece in 2022 when my best friend/sister got married to the man of her dreams. It was such a pinch me moment type of trip because not only was I in such a gorgeous destination but I also got to spend it with people I love so very much.

Whether you have a a week or 4 days, the island is luckily small enough to be able to conquer it and not feel like you’re missing too much. I recommend getting around by ATV. Sounds wild but it’s very common and easy. Renting a car is a hassle and parking is difficult. With an ATV, you can mob around freely.

For accommodations, I can only speak on where I stayed which is typically booked out for larger groups. I stayed at Trinity Mykonos - Villa & Beachfront Boutique Hotel. You can check them out here. I highly suggest. Beautiful property and amazing customer service! Airbnbs though would be a great choice for smaller groups or just yourself.

Beaches:

  • Psarrou

  • Paraga beach

  • Paralia Kalo Livadi

  • Ornos

  • Platis Jalos

The water is clear and warm. It’s definitely a touristy island so don’t expect to have a lot of non touristy type action. You’re choosing one of the most popular islands of Greece for tourism.

Food:

  • Nikolas Taverna - Incredible food. My friend had her wedding reception here too and it was unbelievable. 10/10. Service is fantastic and it’s right on the beach! I recommend going during sunset. Great traditional greek food.

  • M-Eating - For fine dining! Highly recommend.

  • Rizes Folklore Farmstead and Bistrot de Nicolas, both in Ano Mera are great for romantic dining.

  • Mykonos Paraga Cafe - I loved the coffee and pastries.

  • Platis Bakery - This place was near the airbnb we stayed at. I walked 1 morning and brought my book. Ordered a coffee, pastry and sat outside reading at a table. It was pure magic. I loved everything about this bakery!

  • Phos Restaurant - Incredible views since it’s located right on the water and AMAZING seafood. Highly suggest!

When dining in Mykonos:

  • Reservations: Make reservations a few days in advance or if you have a large party, plan ahead.

  • Beach Clubs: A lot of the beach clubs get busy, fast. Sun beds will fill up quickly if you don’t act fast. Also, they serve very good seafood so don’t worry about getting mediocre club food.

  • Tap water is not good in Mykonos. Ok to brush teeth and shower in but I suggest not drinking it. Get bottled water.

  • Tipping in Mykonos: Tipping is very much expected! I know not most of Europe uses this system but general rule is if dining at a Taverna, tip about 2-5 euros. For a higher end restaurant, tip 5-15%.

Keep in mind: Mykonos is known to be the party island or the wedding island. The clubs and beach parties are usually super poppin’ starting from late June and lasting until September. The high points being late July and August.
