Stromboli, Sicily, Italy

Stromboli was a special experience. I stayed for 2 nights here and I loved every moment of it! It’s a small island, but packed with beautiful sights to see! It is located off the coast of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Best part? It has an ACTIVE volcano on the island, Mount Stromboli, which I got to see erupt one night! You only need 2-3 days here. Some people go even for just a day trip.

How to get there:

By Ferrie. We left from the port of Milazzo, which is the easiest way to get there. It took us about 2 hours and we had to make a few stops at other islands along the way but nothing too overwhelming. I suggest taking Dramamine if you get sea sickness. I know I do.

There are plenty of Airbnb’s you can stay at so just look up what fits your needs best :)

Note: There are no cars on Stromboli. Walking, the piaggio ape, or motorcycles are your best bet. We walked so keep in mind, worth notating, that there are a lot of inclines and walking up hill.

Sightseeing/Activities:

Erupting Vulcano!

  • Hang out on the black sand beach. It is gorgeous and the ocean is nice to swim in. The volcanic sand felt so warm and soft and was heaven to lay out on.

  • Roam around Stromboli Village. A lot of little shops near the docking area and restaurants too. The seafood was delicious.

  • Visit Parrocchia di San Vincenzo Ferrari. Great views from the square!

  • Spend a morning or afternoon at Grotta di Eolo. One of the best beaches on the island. Also a black sand beach as well.

  • Hike the volcano.. because, duh. I suggest getting in on a tour, though. My friends and I didn’t do this. We just did a spontaneous night time walk to burn some calories from dinner and came across a trail that lead us close to the volcano. Once we got a good distance from it, we were able to see it erupt. The colors were so vibrant and orange. Perks for being dark out. Again, go with a guide though as I am sure there were easier trails and better experiences to be had haha.
