New York, New York
New York has a piece of my heart that I don’t think I will ever get back and that’s okay. I absolutely love this city with all my being. I’ve been countless times and never get sick of it. A lot of my family lives and is from there so it feels like a home away from home whenever I am back in the Big Apple.
For accommodations, I have always had the luxury of staying with friends and family however Airbnb has a lot of listings you can choose from in all over. I suggest staying in areas like Manhattan (since it’s such a convenient location) or the lower east side. I also really love Brooklyn! It’s just a few stops away on the subway.
Transportation: Subway. Walking. E-Bikes. Subway is great but not ALWAYS reliable so give yourself enough time in case there are delays. You can get a ticket in the subway stations at the kiosk. The E-Bikes are great for summer time. I really enjoyed using them. You have to download the app and follow the rules that are listed on the station poles.
Over the years I have accumulated a list of all my favorite spots, shops, and restaurants. Enjoy :)
My top 4:
Central Park - Whatever season you are experiencing, Central Park is always a great idea. The summer time is my favorite because there are sometimes live music, theatre shows, people having picnics on the lawn and biking all over. Something special about laying under the sun in the city version of nature that is special. If you’re interested in doing a tour to learn more about the history and what’s in it, you can do a walking tour with Get Your Guide.
Visit The Metropolitan Museum of Art - I love art and going to a museum a great way to escape the busy city life and just get lost in history. Extra plus when it’s a hot, sunny, and humid day in the city and you want a break from the heat. You’ll get to see fine art from all over the world and it’s so big you can definitely spend a few good hours here. Admission is $25 USD. If tours are your thing, you can book one here.
Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island - The Statue of Liberty is a 305-feet tall statue gifted to the USA from France. It’s astonishing to see up close and center. While you’re here, you may as well make roam around Ellis Island. I’m not being biased because I have family that arrived to Ellis Island from Italy. I really mean it when I say it’s fascinating to learn about everyone who came from all over and helped build NYC. Admission is $24 USD.
9/11 Memorial - Considering this was one of the saddest events in history, it goes without saying that paying your respects and seeing the memorial for yourself will move you. The energy here is wild.
Catch a Broadway Show! Scroll through their website and book a ticket to your favorite show! There is nothing like seeing live musical theatre in New York. It’s the perfect thing to do solo or with a friend/lover/family.
Sightseeing/Activities:
Go to Coney Island
Do a day trip to Governors Island
Take Astoria bound ferry from Pier 11. Go during sunset and enjoy the skyline. It’s only $5!
Paint and Pour - A painting master class where you drink and paint. So fun! Class costs $50. Book your tickets here!
Watch a sunrise from Empire State Building
With so much more to do and see, I suggest booking a guide through Get Your Guide and explore the beautiful city of New York.
